Free Boat Ramp App for the iPhone

It's not every day that something you get for free is actually useful, but the new Take Me Fishing Boat Ramp App is the exception to the rule. The app, which includes 35,000 boat ramps in its database, is available for free on the iPhone and Android.

The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) launched the free application "to help boaters and anglers get out on the water and find boat ramps right in the palm of their hand."

You can search for boat ramps near where you are, or enter any location in the US and you will get a list of boat ramps, sorted by distance. Click on any ramp on the screen for more details and directions to it.

When we asked about future functionality, RBFF Online Strategies Director Maria Knight told us that once the team at RBFF has enough data to analyze the current version's popularity and user feedback, they will determine whether they'll add additional features.

You can download the Boat Ramp App at iTunes.

In other news about boating in the palm of your hand, MobileMariner, which was available only on the BlackBerry when we told you about it last month, has been approved for the iPhone. You can get a free 7 day trial at iTunes after which the app costs $4.99 per month.

If you've tried any of these apps, please let us know what you think.

  2. Great idea for the tech savy fisherman. As always I emphasize that if your going to take a cell phone on board then it's a good idea to keep it in a waterproof container designed for the purpose until needed.
