Boat Shows Light

This weekend there are only two boat shows for consumers, and both events are in Florida

We're calling this the light edition of our weekly boat show round-up. The boat show season has nearly come to a grinding halt and remains virtually nonexistent until January.

That being said, there are a couple of small, free boat shows this weekend, which both happen to be in Florida.

We also have some other news of nautical events over the next several weeks, as well as a $10,000 contest that you can enter online - the winner will be announced at the Miami Boat Show in February.

Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Boat Show is happening, on land, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, Friday through Sunday (November 19, 20 and 21.) Admission is free, but you may get what you pay for. This event, presented by the St. Petersburg Times newspaper, does not list the show's exhibitors on the website, and sounds kind of like one of those traveling computer shows that sells no-name computers at discount prices. Still, it is free and it's always nice to see what these shows are offering.

Vero Beach
The 27th Annual Vero Beach Fall Boat Show will be held on Saturday, November 20th and Sunday, November 21st at Riverside Park in Vero Beach, Florida. This show is also free - even parking is free. However, based on the lack of information on the show's one-page website, we have to say that the show may not be worth your time unless you live in the area.

We welcome feedback from Florida boaters about these two shows - perhaps we could give a stronger recommendation on them next year based your comments.

Christmas in the Caribbean
All At Sea magazine wants you to come to the Caribbean for the holidays. From lighted boat parades, to holiday racing, dockside parties and New Year's revelry, All At Sea claims there's no better place to celebrate the holidays than in the Caribbean. In this article, they list several nautical events that are yet to make our own boat show calendar.

Win $10,000
SeaTow is giving one lucky boat owner $10,000, perhaps so that you can show your boat a little love which will result in one less broken vessel boat that SeaTow has to come tow. Enter here before the end of January. The winner will be announced at the Miami Boat Show, which is February 17 - 20, 2011.

As always, you can find links to the official websites, maps, and more for these and other upcoming events on our calendar of boat shows.
