Sailfest, Riverfest, and a Few Boat Shows

Whether you attend a summer festival on the riverfront, or a classic and antique boat show, it's all about being on or near the water this weekend...

Every Thursday we tell you about as many of the boat shows and water-related festivities that are happening over the weekend as we can. Our thinking is that if you can't get out on the water you can at least be around boats and other folks who like boats. There are a bunch of river fests, water fests and boat shows around the United States this weekend, including a few in our home state of Conn...

River Fests and Water Fests
Connecticut is funny, and we love it here, but sometimes their planning stinks. Two major cities in the nutmeg state, about an hour from each other, are holding competing festivals this weekend. Hartford is holding its annual Riverfest on Saturday, while New London is holding its annual Sailfest all weekend. Both will have spectacular fireworks displays that you can watch from the water. Up the coast a bit in Massachusetts is Plymouth Maritime Day, which will feature a Parade of Boats, a Blessing of the Fleet and more. Specific dates and links to the official event websites are in the boat show calendar at First Boat

Boat Shows and Expos
If you'd rather go to a regular boat show this weekend, there are a few, but many of them are classic and wooden boat shows:
Bemus Point Antique and Classic Boat Show in Bemus Point, New York
Southeast Texas Great Outdoors Expo in Beaumont, Texas
Chain of Lakes Classic Boat Show in Alexandria, Minn

As always, there are more details about these and other boating events this weekend and coming up - including links to the official websites - on our calendar of boat shows. If we missed an event in this article or on our calendar, please send us an email - boatshows@firstboat.com - or post as a comment below.
