Breaking News from the Volvo Ocean Race
A dramatic daylight finish for Leg 1 of the Volvo Ocean Race is in prospect as high winds of over 25 knots are forecast for leg leader Telefónica (Iker Martínez/ESP) when she crosses the finish in Cape Town later tomorrow afternoon. Martínez and his team have protected their lead and, by remaining in a southerly position for as long as possible, they were able to achieve high speeds as they rode the westerly cold front for longer. It wasn’t until 0400 UTC this morning that the team gybed and cashed in their chips, translating the lateral separation into distance ahead , which could end up being substantial. Stay tuned to the Daily Boater for updates as the teams cross the first finish line over the weekend.

Black Friday & Small Business Saturday
As we're writing this, it is early in the morning on Black Friday - the day after Thanksgiving in America is usually the busiest shopping days of the year for the holidays. And to top it off, the next day is being coined Small Business Saturday, when people are encouraged to support small businesses by choosing to shop at one instead of at a big chain or box store. With that in mind, we invite you to check out our 2nd Annual Daily Boater Holiday Gift Guide, which this year features several nautical gifts you can buy for under $50. Enjoy the guide, as well as the special savings you receive for being a Daily Boater reader!
