However, that doesn't leave you with nothing nautical to do. If you live within a few hours of NYC, you must make the trip to the big apple for the combination of OpSail 2012 and Fleet Week for a show you will not forget. If you are on the other side of the world, the Australian boat show season kicks off this weekend in a place called Sanctuary Cove.
Here is this week's boating event round-up...
Fleet Week NY 2012
Fleet Week New York 2012. Coast Guard photo by Chief Petty Officer Troy Krotz. |
Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week New York is N.Y. City's celebration of the sea services. This annual event also provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today's Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team. Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.
And this year, OpSail is bringing the tall ships of the world back to New York City. So in addition to the latest and greatest in floating military hardware, you'll be able to view the majestic masted ships of yesteryear - all in one place.
