Pre-Fireworks Boating Events

Head to a boat show this weekend... or a fishing tournament, or a boat festival, or a race...

It was only last weekend that we were sharing the first boat shows of the summer. Now, only a week later, we're talking about the 4th of July. Wow, the summer is flying by. Luckily, there are several nautical events on this weekend's boating and fishing calendar. So if you're not out on the boat - or if you don't have one yet - why not be around boats?

Read on for this week's nautical event round-up...

This weekend's boating events are below; and, as always, you are welcome to jump ahead to the First Boat boat show calendar for a quick look at the lineup of boating and fishing events this weekend and beyond.

Boat Shows and Festivals

Newport
The America’s Cup World Series is in Newport, Rhode Island through Sunday, July 1st, with plenty of racing action, and lots of crowds and activities to support the International event.

Boston
Up the road a bit in Boston, there are lots of tall ships in town for a combination of celebrations for the 4th of July.

Boston Harborfest 2012 is a Fourth of July Festival that showcases the colonial and maritime heritage of the cradle of the American Revolution: the historic City of Boston. Over 200 daily events during the Festival are concentrated in Boston's historic downtown and waterfront districts, with sponsored Main Events on Boston's City Hall Plaza.

Overlapping Harborfest is the Boston stop of OpSail 2012, located in Boston's Seaport District from Saturday, June 30th, through Tuesday, July 5th. The international tall ships, active Navy ships, and ships of America’s coalition partners will be on display in Boston and will serve as the centerpiece for the commemoration festivities. The tall ships remind us of the vital role that our own USS Constitution played in The War of 1812, which was the last war fought under sail.

Classic Boats
If classic boats are your thing, you are covered on both coasts with the always well-attended WoodenBoat Show in Mystic, CT (Friday through Sunday), as well as the 36th annual Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival in Seattle (Saturday only). There's also the 37th annual Portage Lakes Antique and Classic Boat Show in Portage Lakes, Ohio, on Saturday.

Canceled
If you were hoping to attend the Sacramento Boat Fest and Sale, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was officially canceled yesterday. Boooo!
