|Make plans now. The Norwalk Boat Show is less than 2 weeks away! boatshownorwalk.com|
Or perhaps it will be less crowded as the fate of the annual Annapolis sail and power boat shows is undetermined due to a change of ownership earlier this week.
But let's focus on here and now. This weekend, it's Tampa. A pretty big show, but not necessarily even one of the top five in the state of Florida. This weekend, however, it's the biggest boat show in the world. The other contender is the CNY Fall Boat Show in Syracuse, NY. So, this weekend is about Tampa (but we'll also preview the Norwalk Boat Show as it's so close to home!)
Tampa Boat Show
This show is a large regional boat show, with more than 500 boats on display, including several yachts over 50 feet. Like the two big South Florida shows, Tampa has both an indoor and an in-water component, so no matter the weather it won't be a total wash-out. The event runs today through Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Tampa Convention Center.
CNY Fall Boat Show
This boat show is in Syracuse at the NY State Fairgrounds this Friday (9/6) through Sunday. The event's website refers to the show as "The Clear'em Out Fall Boat Show & Sale", which makes me think you can find some really good deals on boats, as they're going to have all the stuff they couldn't sell all summer on display. If you go to the CNY show, expect about 15 exhibitors and perhaps 100 new and used boats (the website claims "hundreds of boats", but let us know how accurate that is.)
After this weekend, you'll find a plethora of big shows around the world over the next few weeks; these include boat shows in Newport, RI and Newport California, Atlantic City, and in Europe, Cannes, France, and Southampton, UK. One that we like to highlight because it's close to home is the Progressive Insurance Norwalk Boat Show...
Norwalk Boat Show
The final in-water boat show of the year in New England promises to be bigger and better than ever this year. In addition to all the great boats and accessories on display, this year's features include:
- a chance to meet Deadliest Catch star Johnathan Hillstrand,
- the famous 180 MPH "Miss GEICO" racing boat
- free powerboat and sailboat rides on Long Island Sound
- tours on a kayak or SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard)
Dates & Times
Thursday through Sunday, September 19–22, 2013, 10am–6pm daily
Norwalk Cove Marina, East Norwalk, CT
